It fits the E36 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (318i, 320i, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan and coupe (316i, 316i 1.6, 316i 1.9, 318d and 318i, 1997–2004), with the M43, M47, M47N, N42 or N46 engines.
BMW draws it on 3 diagrams, among them Single Components for Rear Spring Strut (33_0386) and Rear Spring Strut Mounting Parts (33_0841). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 90 g (0.2 lb).
