Air filter element — a genuine BMW part, number 13 72 1 271 254. The number stamped on the part is 13721271254; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1271254. You will find it on our Air Intake shelf, under AIR CLEANER. It supersedes the older number 1261012, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1278138.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

BMW draws it on 25 diagrams, among them Suction Silencer/Filter Cartridge (13_0321) and Suction Silencer/Filter Cartridge (13_0322). It weighs about 353 g (0.8 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
