This is a genuine BMW axial securing clip, part number 07 12 9 905 714. The number stamped on the part is 07129905714; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 9905714. You will find it on our Supplies & Hardware shelf, under Group 12. It supersedes the older number 9903620, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 6 diagrams, among them Glove Box (51_4435) and Glove box with airbag (51_4436). It also comes in BMW kit Set of fittings for glove box (0301341).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
