This is a genuine BMW battery cable (plus pole), part number 12 42 1 744 230. The number stamped on the part is 12421744230; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1744230. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older number 1703473, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E36 sedan, coupe and touring (318i, 320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M42, M43, M44, M50, M52 or S50 and other engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 2 diagrams, among them Battery Cable(battery Rear) (12_0364) and Battery Cable(battery Front) (12_1976). It weighs about 2.3 kg (5.1 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
