This is a genuine BMW brush holder plate, part number 12 41 1 722 849. The number stamped on the part is 12411722849; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1722849. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Starter motor with mounting. It supersedes the older numbers 1721295 and 1735887, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M50, M52 or S50 and other engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 9 diagrams, among them Starter Parts 1,4kw (12_0509) and Starter Parts 1,4kw (12_0515). It weighs about 88 g (0.2 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
