Genuine BMW part 11 31 1 738 700: Chain tensioner. The number stamped on the part is 11311738700; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1738700. You will find it on our Engine shelf, under CAMSHAFT. It supersedes the older number 1726502, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits every E36 body style (320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (320i, 323i and 325i, 1999–2006), with the M52, M54 or M56 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 10 diagrams, among them timing gear timing chain top (11_1286) and timing gear timing chain top (11_1437). It weighs about 240 g (0.5 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Repair kit (8300075).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
