This is a genuine BMW circlip, part number 72 16 1 858 017. The number stamped on the part is 72161858017; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1858017. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Underneath and above.
It fits the E36 coupe and convertible (318i, 325i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M42, M43, M44, M50 or S50 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 8 diagrams, among them Centre console (51_2734) and Centre console (51_2735). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It also comes in BMW kits Unlocking unit, left (8191423) and Unlocking unit, right (8191424).
