This is a genuine BMW conical ring, part number 18 11 1 245 489. The number stamped on the part is 18111245489; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1245489. You will find it on our Exhaust shelf, under Other Exhaust system parts. It supersedes the older number 1245960, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 41 diagrams, among them Exhaust system (18_0003) and Exhaust Pipe Front (18_0005). It weighs about 32 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kits Set mounting parts (1175762) and Set mounting parts (1175763) and 4 more.
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
