This is a genuine BMW cover lid, part number 23 31 7 531 369. The number stamped on the part is 23317531369; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7531369. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Inner gearshift parts. It supersedes the older number 1222988, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 7637524.

It fits the E36 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 6 diagrams, among them Getrag 265/5 Inner Gear Shifting Parts (23_0049) and S5D...Z inner gear shifting parts (23_1139). BMW's catalog calls for three of these at each place it is fitted.

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
