Distributor cap — a genuine BMW part, number 12 11 1 271 656. The number stamped on the part is 12111271656; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1271656. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Ignition distributor, contact breaker. It supersedes the older numbers 1354499 and 8630146, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1270927.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

BMW draws it on 5 diagrams, among them Distributor-Single Parts (12_0784) and Distributor-Single Parts (12_0785). It weighs about 86 g (0.2 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
