Fan — a genuine BMW part, number 17 40 8 523 917. The number stamped on the part is 17408523917; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8523917. You will find it on our Cooling System shelf, under Oil cooler / circuits. It supersedes the older number 7708902, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 8541622.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

BMW draws it on the Fan (17_0645) diagram. It weighs about 590 g (1.3 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
