This is a genuine BMW fillister head screw, part number 12 31 1 747 251. The number stamped on the part is 12311747251; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1747251. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 1727755, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E36 sedan and coupe (318i, 320i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42 or M50 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 138 diagrams, among them Alternator Parts 90a (12_0400) and Alternator Parts 65a (12_0484). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 3 g (under 0.1 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
