This is a genuine BMW gasket ring, part number 23 12 1 338 741. The number stamped on the part is 23121338741; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1338741. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Bearing in housing, sealing rings. It supersedes the older number 0002196, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 5 diagrams, among them Cover (11_2749) and Gearbox Cover, Gasket and Various Bolts (23_0250). It weighs about 5 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Gasket Set Five Speed Gearbox (1338597).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
