Grooved ball bearing — a genuine BMW part, number 12 31 1 739 203. The number stamped on the part is 12311739203; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1739203. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 1738096, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E36 sedan and coupe (318i, 320i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42 or M50 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 134 diagrams, among them Alternator Parts 90a (12_0400) and Alternator, individual parts 105A (12_0437). It weighs about 36 g (under 0.1 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
