Guide rail — a genuine BMW part, number 11 31 1 726 480. The number stamped on the part is 11311726480; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1726480. You will find it on our Engine shelf, under CAMSHAFT. It supersedes the older number 1726471, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits every E36 body style (320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (320i, 323i and 325i, 1999–2006), with the M52, M54 or M56 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 7 diagrams, among them Timing - Timing Chain Lower P (11_1285) and Timing - Timing Chain Lower P (11_1339). It weighs about 40 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Repair kit (8300075).
