Idler — a genuine BMW part, number 12 31 7 677 914. The number stamped on the part is 12317677914; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7677914. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 1273639, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E36 sedan and coupe (318i, 1992–1999), with the M40 or M42 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 114 diagrams, among them Alternatormounting Parts (12_0221) and Alternatormounting Parts (12_0222). It weighs about 14 g (under 0.1 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
