Independent heater diagn. adapter — a genuine BMW part, number 64 12 0 309 664. The number stamped on the part is 64120309664; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 0309664. You will find it on our AC & Climate Control shelf, under Other Heater and Air Conditioning parts. It supersedes the older numbers 0004238 and 0393920, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 0414285.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (316i, 316i 1.6, 316i 1.9, 316ti and 318i, 1998–2004), with the M43, N40, N42, N45 or N46 engines.

BMW draws it on 7 diagrams, among them Installing Set Independ.Heater/Ventilat (03_0913) and Installing Set Independ.Heater/Ventilat (03_0914). It weighs about 590 g (1.3 lb).
