Genuine BMW part 23 31 7 531 374: Lock Ring. The number stamped on the part is 23317531374; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7531374. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Inner gearshift parts. It supersedes the older number 1224960, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits the E36 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (325i, 328i and 330i, 1999–2006), with the M52 or M54 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 16 diagrams, among them S5D...Z inner gear shifting parts (23_0229) and GS5-39DZ inner gear shifting parts (23_0874). It also comes in BMW kit Repair kit bush bearing (7542726).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
