This is a genuine BMW oil strainer, part number 11 12 7 836 328. The number stamped on the part is 11127836328; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7836328. You will find it on our Engine shelf, under Cylinder head with cover. It supersedes the older number 7831636, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E46 coupe and convertible (M3, 2001–2006), with the S54 engine.

BMW draws it on 2 diagrams, among them Cylinder head (11_2991) and Cylinder head (11_6250). BMW's catalog calls for five of these at each place it is fitted.
