This is a genuine BMW output shaft, part number 23 21 1 228 296. The number stamped on the part is 23211228296; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1228296. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Transmission shafts. It supersedes the older number 1228064, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

BMW draws it on 7 diagrams, among them Getrag 260/5/50 Gear Wheel Set, Sing Part (23_0142) and Getrag 260/5/50 Gear Wheel Set, Sing Part (23_0143). It weighs about 3.1 kg (6.9 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
