This is a genuine BMW radio remote control, part number 61 31 0 396 945. The number stamped on the part is 61310396945; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 0396945. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Switch. It supersedes the older numbers 0308937 and 0401092, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 2 diagrams, among them Radio remote control (41_1542) and Radio remote control (41_1851). It weighs about 30 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kits Set of keys with CAS control unit (0031500) and Set uniform lock.syst. w/CAS cntrl(code) (0031504) and 1 more.
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
