Recessed cover — a genuine BMW part, number 51 71 7 039 442. The number stamped on the part is 51717039442; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7039442. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Other Body equipment parts. It supersedes the older number 8229795, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits every E46 body style (318d, 320d, 320td and 330d, 1998–2004), with the M47, M47N, M57 or M57N engines.
BMW draws it on the Front Panel (51_3276) diagram. It weighs about 210 g (0.5 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
