This is a genuine BMW retainer spring, part number 11 37 7 513 873. The number stamped on the part is 11377513873; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7513873. You will find it on our Engine shelf, under Other Engine parts.

It fits every E46 body style (316i, 316ti, 318i and 318ti, 2001–2004), with the N42 or N46 engines.

BMW draws it on the Valve timing gear, camshaft, inlet (11_3176) diagram. BMW's catalog calls for four of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 40 g (under 0.1 lb).
