Safety bar, left — a genuine BMW part, number 46 71 1 240 043. The number stamped on the part is 46711240043; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1240043. You will find it on our Supplies & Hardware shelf, under Footrests. It supersedes the older number 1235954, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1240883.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
It weighs about 1.0 kg (2.2 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
