This is a genuine BMW safety pressure switch, part number 64 53 8 390 815. The number stamped on the part is 64538390815; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8390815. You will find it on our AC & Climate Control shelf, under Other Heater and Air Conditioning parts. It supersedes the older numbers 1392477 and 8390582, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 3 diagrams, among them Drying Container/Small Parts (64_0163) and Condenser/Fan/Drying Container (64_0636). It weighs about 90 g (0.2 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Installing Set Automatic Air Conditioner (9405891).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
