This is a genuine BMW set of alu. screws alternator, part number 12 31 0 392 568. The number stamped on the part is 12310392568; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 0392568. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 7527681, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 4 diagrams, among them Alternator (12_1198) and Generator, individual parts (12_1245). It weighs about 50 g (0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kits Set of alu. screws short engine (0411131) and Set of aluminum screws f compl.crankcase (0426590).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
