Spare key — a genuine BMW part, number 51 21 7 118 972. The number stamped on the part is 51217118972; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7118972. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Other Body equipment parts. It supersedes the older numbers 7075838, 7075839 and 7118971, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on the Key with accumulator battery (41_1507) diagram. It also comes in BMW kits Set of keys with CAS control unit (0031416) and Set of keys with CAS control unit (0031417) and 2 more.
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
