Spring pad upper — a genuine BMW part, number 31 33 1 128 523. The number stamped on the part is 31331128523; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1128523. You will find it on our Suspension shelf, under Other Front Axle parts. It supersedes the older numbers 0146229 and 1124321, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 45 diagrams, among them Guide Support/Spring Pad/Attaching Parts (31_0087) and Guide Support/Spring Pad/Attaching Parts (31_0235). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 30 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Chassis (2221907).
