Stopper plug-in socket — a genuine BMW part, number 51 16 8 222 183. The number stamped on the part is 51168222183; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8222183. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Mirrors, trims, storage compartments. It supersedes the older numbers 0141037, 7135141 and 9229333, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 9316116.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M43, M44, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan, coupe and touring (316i, 316i 1.6 and 316i 1.9, 1998–2004), with the M43, N40, N42, N45 or N46 engines.

BMW draws it on 88 diagrams, among them Storing Partition (51_2165) and Storing Partition (51_3086). It weighs about 10 g (under 0.1 lb).
