This is a genuine BMW suppression capacitor alternator, part number 12 31 1 356 564. The number stamped on the part is 12311356564; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1356564. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older numbers 1353829 and 1356626, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.

It fits the E36 sedan and coupe (318i, 320i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42 or M50 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 78 diagrams, among them Alternator Parts 90a (12_0400) and Alternator Parts 65a (12_0484). It weighs about 12 g (under 0.1 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
