This is a genuine BMW transmission cover, part number 23 11 1 228 020. The number stamped on the part is 23111228020; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1228020. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Housing with cover. It supersedes the older numbers 1224151 and 1228126, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

BMW draws it on 20 diagrams, among them Getrag 260/5/50 (sport) Housing+parts (23_0133) and Getrag 260/6 Housing+attaching Parts (23_0569). It weighs about 2.4 kg (5.2 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
