This is a genuine BMW warning torch holder, part number 51 71 8 170 078. The number stamped on the part is 51718170078; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8170078. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Other Body equipment parts. It supersedes the older number 0150956, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E36 compact (318ti, 1995–1999), with the M42 or M44 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 6 diagrams, among them Trim Panel Leg Room (51_2036) and Trim Panel Leg Room (51_2168). It weighs about 10 g (under 0.1 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
