This is a genuine BMW basic control unit DME (exchange unit), part number 12 14 1 247 877. The number stamped on the part is 12141247877; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1247877. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH Basic control unit DME”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older number 1247228, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1743251.

It fits the E36 sedan and coupe (318i, 1992–1999), with the M42 engine.

BMW draws it on the Uncoded DME control unit (12_1979) diagram. It weighs about 558 g (1.2 lb).
