Ignition key (code) — a genuine BMW part, number 51 25 7 681 202. The number stamped on the part is 51257681202; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7681202. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Locks. It supersedes the older number 7681198, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 11 diagrams, among them Case, lower part (46_1341) and Topcase bottom section (46_1358). It weighs about 10 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kits Set keys inc. BMSK ECU (code) (8528837) and Set keys inc. BMSK ECU (code) (8528838) and 2 more.
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
