This is a genuine BMW radio remote control Basic, part number 66 12 9 254 891. The number stamped on the part is 66129254891; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 9254891. You will find it on our Instruments & Electronics shelf, under Radio-controlled locking system. It supersedes the older number 2209529, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 7 diagrams, among them Key (41_2131) and Key (41_2177). It weighs about 30 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kits Set, key, with FEM control unit (0038691) and Set of keys with CAS control unit (0039472) and 3 more.
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
