Shift gear for 1st. gear — a genuine BMW part, number 23 22 1 228 021. The number stamped on the part is 23221228021; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1228021. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Gear wheels. It supersedes the older number 1224261, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

BMW draws it on 2 diagrams, among them Getrag 260/5/50 Gear Wheel Set, Sing Part (23_0134) and Getrag 260/5/50 Gear Wheel Set, Sing Part (23_0182). It weighs about 1.4 kg (3.0 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
