The number stamped on the part is 11121726239; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1726239. You will find it on our Engine shelf, under Cylinder head with cover. It supersedes the older number 1278955, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1743118.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 5 diagrams, among them Engine block (11_0086) and Flywheel (11_0282). It also comes in BMW kits Set Mounting Parts Short Engine (9057181) and Set Mounting Parts Short Engine (9058447) and 4 more.
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
