Basic control unit DME (exchange unit) — a genuine BMW part, number 12 14 1 739 857. The number stamped on the part is 12141739857; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1739857. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH Basic control unit DME”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older number 1739855, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1432521.

It fits the E36 sedan, coupe and compact (316i and 316i 1.6, 1993–1997), with the M43 engine.

BMW draws it on the Uncoded DME control unit (12_1979) diagram. It weighs about 526 g (1.2 lb).
