This is a genuine BMW housing cover, part number 23 11 1 228 311. The number stamped on the part is 23111228311; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1228311. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Housing with cover. It supersedes the older number 1228181, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

BMW draws it on 17 diagrams, among them Getrag 265/5 Housing+attaching Parts (23_0000) and Getrag 265/5 Housing+attaching Parts (23_0001). It weighs about 511 g (1.1 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
