-- View BMW DiagramSee this part on the official exploded view→This is a genuine BMW compact alternator, part number 12 31 1 247 487. The number stamped on the part is 12311247487; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1247487. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 1319015, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1247488.
It fits the E36 sedan (318i, 1992–1998), with the M42 or M43 engines.
BMW draws it on 3 diagrams, among them Alternator, individual parts 80A (12_0578) and Alternator, individual parts 80A (12_0609). BMW lists the quantity used as “as required”. It weighs about 5.7 kg (13 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
