Basic control unit DME (exchange unit) — a genuine BMW part, number 12 14 7 541 462. The number stamped on the part is 12147541462; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7541462. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH Basic control unit DME”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older number 7531851, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 7563331.

It fits the E46 sedan, touring and compact (316i, 316ti, 318i and 318ti, 2004), with the N46 engine.

BMW draws it on the Basic control unit DME / EKV946 (12_1324) diagram. It weighs about 814 g (1.8 lb).
