The number stamped on the part is 12411740379; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1740379. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Starter motor with mounting. It supersedes the older numbers 1466102, 1712937, 1735524 and 1738604, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 2344247.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 8 diagrams, among them Starter (12_1506) and Starter (12_1662). It weighs about 2.9 kg (6.5 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
