The number stamped on the part is 12412344247; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 2344247. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Starter motor with mounting. It supersedes the older numbers 1740375 and 1740379, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 2354709.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 8 diagrams, among them Starter (12_1506) and Starter (12_1662). It weighs about 3.1 kg (6.7 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
