01 View BMW DiagramSee this part on the official exploded view→This is a genuine BMW exchange starter motor, part number 12 41 2 344 242. The number stamped on the part is 12412344242; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 2344242. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Starter motor with mounting. It supersedes the older numbers 2167996, 2179001 and 7578684, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 2354693.
It fits every E46 body style (320i, 325i and 330i, 2001–2006), with the M54 or M56 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on the Starter (12_1092) diagram. It weighs about 3.0 kg (6.6 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
