This is a genuine BMW control unit DME programmed (exchange unit), part number 12 14 1 740 255. The number stamped on the part is 12141740255; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1740255. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH control unit DME programmed”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older number 1703649, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1744501.

It fits the E36 sedan (325i, 1992–1995), with the M50 engine.

BMW draws it on the Control unit DME, programmed (12_1993) diagram. It weighs about 587 g (1.3 lb).
