The number stamped on the part is 12411720246; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1720246. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Starter motor with mounting. It supersedes the older numbers 1468117 and 1720218, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1711403.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 3 diagrams, among them Starter Parts 2,2kw (12_0537) and Starter (12_1591). It weighs about 2.9 kg (6.5 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
