01 View BMW DiagramSee this part on the official exploded view→This is a genuine BMW compact generator (exchange unit), part number 12 31 1 432 980. The number stamped on the part is 12311432980; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1432980. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH compact generator”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 1432981, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits the E46 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (320i, 323i and 328i, 1999–2005), with the M52 engine — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 3 diagrams, among them Compact Alternator (12_0626) and Compact Alternator (12_2012). It weighs about 6.8 kg (15 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
