The number stamped on the part is 12311744567; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1744567. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH compact generator”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older numbers 1738352, 1738512, 1738515 and 1744563, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.
It fits every E36 body style (320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 3 diagrams, among them Alternator (12_0127) and Alternator (12_0128). It weighs about 7.6 kg (17 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
