The number stamped on the part is 12312249969; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 2249969. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH compact generator”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 2249966, so a part carrying that number is the same part. It fits the E46 sedan and touring (320d and 330d, 1998–2001), with the M47 or M57 engines.
BMW draws it on the ALTERNATOR PARTS 120A/150A Valeo (12_0914) diagram. BMW lists the quantity used as “as required”. It weighs about 7.3 kg (16 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
